Sunday
School and The Church
The
Great Commission is the one great driving force for the growth
of God's kingdom and the health of His church on kingdom
mission. The objective is spiritual transformation through
which people are made fit for the kingdom - both here and
hereafter.
The
Church - consisting of those who have been and are being changed
in Christ - is characterized by five essential functions. These
functions grow out of the Great Commission and are evident in
the New Testament church as seen in Acts 2:42-47. The
five essential functions are:
-
Evangelism
- believers sharing the Gospel with lost people;
-
Discipleship
- new believers grow to become more Christlike in every area
of life;
-
Ministry
- meeting another person's needs in the name of Jesus
Christ;
-
Fellowship
- a oneness of believers by their common relationship with
Jesus Christ;
-
Worship
- encountering God in a meaningful, spiritual way and
showing adoration and reverence for Him
